Subscription Concert #1 - Downbeat!

A burnished fanfare for brass by Dukas opens the season, followed by Mendelssohn’s stylish evocation of Italian lyricism. Elegant pianist Anton Nel returns with selections for piano and orchestra by Schumann and Ravel, music both romantic and rakish. A joyous opening night!

The Bakersfield Symphony Orchestra and Civic Dance Center will celebrate their 30th anniversary of performing Tchaikovsky's Nutcracker together. The beautiful music of Tchaikovsky and magical dancing combine to bring the story of the Nutcracker to life!
Special guests will be two principal dancers from the Dance Theater of Harlem!

A program of music joining three artistic associates of classical Vienna, beginning with Mozart’s “exotic” Overture to the Abduction from the Seraglio, and Haydn’s Symphony No. 83 (“The Hen”). The stunning young, award-winning pianist Chu-Fang Huang will perform Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 2. An evening of music by the three supreme Classic masters.

Subscription Concert #6 - Times and Places

The orchestra closes its season with a lavish selection of music evoking moods and scenes. Beginning with Rossini’s witty overture to his farcical opera Il Signor Bruschino, the orchestra will move to exquisite atmospheric selections by Delius, Elgar, and Barber. Rarely heard concert music for tuba will be played by the internationally acclaimed virtuoso Øystein Baadsvik, and the orchestra will conclude a brilliant season with Respighi’s reverberant Pines of Rome.
